When your client is a keen snowboarder, who especially favours Courchevel, you’re in luck, for this means that one day you, yourself a keen skier, will be staying in the famous Courchevel hotel Le K 2 with the sole purpose of looking around, getting into the spirit of the place and memorizing the sensation. All of this in order to recreate everything in a place rather distant from the French Alps. It was half adventure, half childish game. The trickiest task was to simulate the wood of the Alpine chalet, all turned grey from time, on the walls of a modern glulam house. The painting samples alone took us a whole month! Also, here and there we added something that we hadn’t seen in Courchevel – like a hanging fireplace, a very complicated engineering structure, mirrored windows, patchwork tiles and a tabletop cut from a single piece of Asian pear which we brought home from our trip to China. We did not labour in vain. “Better than Courchevel itself,” – the host told us on the housewarming party.
